So, exactly one week ago on Sunday August 13 (well technically August 14), Vaithegi arrived in Singapore. It was so weird to see her here, outside Toronto but it was so nice to see someone from back home, although the past week has gone by way too fast and she will be going back to Toronto in a few days. Luckily I only had class on one day this week because the rest of the classes were cancelled so I got to spend some time with her. The first day was seeing the NUS campus, meeting my host sister, going shopping, and dining in/touring Little India. The second day I had class so Vai met up with some people from the HPAIR conference and then I met up with them in the evening for dinner, after which me and Vai went shopping again. On Wednesday we went to Pulau Ubin with a few other people. It was definitely an interesting experience, like going from a westernized country to a third-world country (the pictures explain it all). At night, we went to Clarke Quay for dinner and a bumboat ride along the river. Thursday was spent lazing around, shopping (yet again), and Vai getting ready for the conference, which she was at the past couple of days. Friday was the first day since I've arrived that I spent the whole day on campus, but it was nice to finally relax and just hang out. I also tried to buy books and print out lecture notes which turned out to be one of the most frustrating experiences of my Singapore adventure so far, and it really made me appreciate York and Toronto in general. Today I tried to catch up on my rest, seeing as I haven't been getting too much and I think I'm getting sick now. On Tuesday, me and Vai leave for Bangkok and then Friday night she goes back to Toronto :(. More updates to come soon.....
